Any experience that you attain in your overseas education process is one that should be paraded in front of employers.
Employers through the globe are in awe of students who have attained their education abroad. To understand why employers appreciate the same, look at the below given compelling points:

  • Global Edge
Although the knowledge that you attain regarding a particular subject revolves around a similar point, the way the curriculum is taught is varied. Apart from learning through Powerpoint slides and books, the experience you gain by interacting with individuals from corners of the globe enhances your learning capacity. Stepping out of your comfort zone and diving into something that can be regarded as a cultural shock gives you a global edge over others.

  • Eagerness
The fact that you got on a plane and travelled to another part of the world to study shows your eagerness to do things. This is a trait that a large number of employers look in their prospective employees. Your thirst for knowledge and new experiences is a trait that gets highlighted when you decide to study abroad.

  • Cultural Sensitivity
When you decide to study abroad, you’re putting yourself in the cultural dimension of another country. This allows you to not only understand a varied culture but also look at your own culture through a lens. Thus sensitivity to culture that you are able to bring in your workplace is a trait sought after by employers. This means that you will be accommodating to the needs of your co-workers as well as your clients.

  • Resolution of Problems
Living abroad throws curveballs along your way, facing your problems and in many cases solving them imbibes a large set of skill sets in you. From petty issues with roommates to dealing with the regulations made by foreign governments, you adjust to a large number of problems. This nature of not just adjustment but problem solving skills are attributes employers highly seek in employees.

  • Self Reliance
It is but natural that during your tenure overseas you largely had to fend for yourself. From simple tasks like doing the laundry to more complex ones that include dealing with finances at the bank, you truly become self-sufficient. Employers have faith in your ability to manage tasks that come along your way.

  • Networking Skills
When you study abroad, you throw yourself amongst strangers. You have to start from scratch by making new friends, finding a social circle and networking your way through university life. This skill comes into great use in a professional environment when you have to interact with co-workers, have an appropriate social behaviour and wooing your boss. These social skills will be a feather in your cap when you’re studying overseas.

  • Flexibility
Adapting to a new country and along with it a new culture and people is a skill not many possess. So if you can adapt to a whole new time zone and a different way of education, adapting yourself to a work environment will be a cakewalk for you.

  • Outlook
Related to the above given points, your decision to study abroad gives a varied outlook towards life. This harnesses your creative abilities, stepping into an environment that is starkly different from yours enlarges your outlook towards life. This attribute is highly sought after by employers.

  • Initiative
The fact that you took the initiative to travel to another corner of the world to study means a great deal. Apart from the fact that you travelled to a whole new country, there will be instances where you would have to take the initiative to get things done. This innate ability in you, shows the employers that you will take initiative when the need arises to get things done.

  • Ability To Take Risks
Employers take into consideration the fact that you stepped out of your comfort zone and took on a challenge. Which means that if you’re pushed into the deep end in a professional environment you will come out as a winner.

Factors to consider before deciding where to study abroad.

Overseas Education is an interesting opportunity for students who want to get the most out of education by not only studying in different locations but also from a higher level of education. While the thought of studying abroad is exciting, for a lot of students, it mostly ends up being confusing because of the variety of choices that present themselves, especially when it comes to choosing a country to study in. The output is much greater because the curriculum challenges students to develop new skills and deal with the ever evolving environment in which the student is placed in. Every student that has a desire to study abroad has to do a fair share of research beginning with the choice of country to the course and finances.
Before choosing where to study abroad, there are a few recommended areas that a student should research on. To simplify this process, here are a few examples of key areas to be mindful about:

1. Visa Regulations:

While deciding which country to study in, a factor that should definitely be considered are the visa regulations the country currently has in effect. Visa regulations differ from country to country, for some countries, the visa regulation and process may be more strict while in some countries, the regulations are more relaxed and easier to get through. A student could consider countries for which there is no visa required or one where there is a small nominal fee. It all depends on the type of course the student wants to pursue. A few factors that countries usually consider include age and educational background, finances, language skills and intended degree course. There are also different restrictions on how long a student can stay in the country before and after the course and whether a student work during or after a degree.

2. Language -

Another important and crucial factor is language. Students should choose a country based on the languages the student speaks. Interaction is key while studying abroad and not being proficient in the languages spoken will be a problem to the student. If the student can, he/she should try learning a new language to help them be effective communicators. For countries where English is not widely spoken, it is advisable for students to learn the local language and in most cases, the universities have language classes as a part of their curriculum. This proves to be very effective in the future.

3. Costs and Duration

Finances are the backbone of Education Abroad as it plays a vital and crucial role in the entire process. Based on their finances, student can select courses and countries that are affordable. Students often apply for student aid and scholarships to help reduce the cost and pressure on finances.

4. University and Course -

The main areas of consideration for studying abroad is choosing the University and course which is best suited for the student. Students mostly shortlist at least 3 universities and based on what's the most beneficial to them, students make their choice. Apart from the university, Students have to select the course they want to specialize in. The student should compare universities and choose the one that has the most output which will directly have an impact on their future careers. The duration of the course is also very important. Different countries offer the same courses for a lesser number of years. The longer the course, more is the cost of living and tuition. Hence students choose quicker courses that have the same qualifications.

5. Career Opportunities -

Students have to consider what their scope of employment is after the course they are studying is completed. The students have to decide if they wish to study in that country after the course is completed or come back to India and pursue a job here. Most degrees have a higher value in India depending on the University at which the degree was completed in. The future career prospects of the students plays a vital role in the selection of the course and country.

Being an International Student exposes you to a sea of possibilities that teaches students the fundamentals of responsibility and making calculated decisions for the best results. The factors mentioned above have to be carefully considered as every step is crucial in this journey of Education Abroad.

New UK Study Visa Rule- Positive Implications for Indian students

In an attempt to attract a large number of international students, the Boris Johnson government recently altered the study visa rules for international students. Through the new scheme, international students from a range of countries which includes India, can stay back in the UK two years upon the completion of the course.
Until recently, those who study in UK, received a stay back of mere four to six months respectively. This changed scenario is set to attract a large number of international students to the country.

Who does the new visa rule apply to?
The new visa will apply to students studying any subject at the undergraduate as well as postgraduate level. The new visa will be a distinct one that requires a new application, compromising of payments of visa and health surcharge. Students should not confuse this with settlement. The said visa cannot be extended for longer than the duration it is prescribed.

Why was the rule brought back?
The “new” rule was earlier in place before the Thatcher government scrapped it. Due to the scrapping of the rule, the UK saw a noticeable dip in the number of international students deciding to study in UK. With the said proposal being brought back in the picture, it is expected that the number of international students in the UK will see a rise.

Who benefits from this?
As an Indian student, you and the university both benefit from the said regulation. The exchange of culture will allow students to develop their careers and for universities to benefit from the range of constructive ideas students bring to the table.
However, this should not be seen as a lax in rules. Although universities have opened their doors to international students, the rules still remain stringent in accepting the academically eminent. Therefore, although the stay back option has increased, students still have to be at the top of their game to reap the benefits.

Stay Back Opportunities
A prominent consideration students make when they decide to study abroad is the stay back opportunities received. A large chunk of international students would deter studying in UK due to the lack of stay back available. However, with the newly brought in scheme, things are definitely looking bright.

Job Seeking opportunities
A major benefit of the visa is that it gives international students an opportunity to look for jobs. Once the graduate finds an appropriate job, they can switch to the skilled work segment which is a route towards settlement. Earlier, employers were reluctant to offer job opportunities to international students due certain norms, however the change in the outlook from the government is likely to positively affect employers as well. Another major pro of the said regime is that it doesn’t restrict the kind of jobs students are permitted to undertake.

Probabilities of repaying education loans faster
Apart from the opportunity to seek jobs during this phase, students who take up loans to finance their education receive ample time to cover costs and repay their loan. An icing on the cake is the fact that the opportunity to find a job in the UK will increase their likelihood of repaying their loans sooner.

Receive Global Recognition
As a student who has studied courses in UK, the global standing you receive will be high. Even if students don’t receive permanent jobs in the UK, the work experience they have attained in the UK will enable them to make a strong standing in the international job market.
Moreover, there is no cap on the number of students who can avail the visa.
The new visa rule is seen as a win for both Indian students as well as universities in UK.

Time to Adjust
The said change in visa rules is said to be brought in from the academic year 2020-21, the reason for doing so atterates the fact that enough time is at the disposal of universities, students as well as the government to ensure that they bring in the necessary changes.

If the newly brought in changes has motivated you to study in UK, and some expert overseas education counseling is all you’re in search of, look no further.
Edwise Overseas Education Consultants will provide you with all the answers to your queries.
