Factors to consider before deciding where to study abroad

Overseas Education is an interesting opportunity for students who want to get the most out of education by not only studying in different locations but also from a higher level of education. While the thought of studying abroad is exciting, for a lot of students, it mostly ends up being confusing because of the variety of choices that present themselves, especially when it comes to choosing a country to study in. The output is much greater because the curriculum challenges students to develop new skills and deal with the ever evolving environment in which the student is placed in. Every student that has a desire to study abroad has to do a fair share of research beginning with the choice of country to the course and finances.
Before choosing where to study abroad, there are a few recommended areas that a student should research on. To simplify this process, here are a few examples of key areas to be mindful about:

1. Visa Regulations:

While deciding which country to study in, a factor that should definitely be considered are the visa regulations the country currently has in effect. Visa regulations differ from country to country, for some countries, the visa regulation and process may be more strict while in some countries, the regulations are more relaxed and easier to get through. A student could consider countries for which there is no visa required or one where there is a small nominal fee. It all depends on the type of course the student wants to pursue. A few factors that countries usually consider include age and educational background, finances, language skills and intended degree course. There are also different restrictions on how long a student can stay in the country before and after the course and whether a student work during or after a degree.

2. Language -

Another important and crucial factor is language. Students should choose a country based on the languages the student speaks. Interaction is key while studying abroad and not being proficient in the languages spoken will be a problem to the student. If the student can, he/she should try learning a new language to help them be effective communicators. For countries where English is not widely spoken, it is advisable for students to learn the local language and in most cases, the universities have language classes as a part of their curriculum. This proves to be very effective in the future.

3. Costs and Duration

Finances are the backbone of Education Abroad as it plays a vital and crucial role in the entire process. Based on their finances, student can select courses and countries that are affordable. Students often apply for student aid and scholarships to help reduce the cost and pressure on finances.

4. University and Course -

The main areas of consideration for studying abroad is choosing the University and course which is best suited for the student. Students mostly shortlist at least 3 universities and based on what's the most beneficial to them, students make their choice. Apart from the university, Students have to select the course they want to specialize in. The student should compare universities and choose the one that has the most output which will directly have an impact on their future careers. The duration of the course is also very important. Different countries offer the same courses for a lesser number of years. The longer the course, more is the cost of living and tuition. Hence students choose quicker courses that have the same qualifications.

5. Career Opportunities -

Students have to consider what their scope of employment is after the course they are studying is completed. The students have to decide if they wish to study in that country after the course is completed or come back to India and pursue a job here. Most degrees have a higher value in India depending on the University at which the degree was completed in. The future career prospects of the students plays a vital role in the selection of the course and country.

Being an International Student exposes you to a sea of possibilities that teaches students the fundamentals of responsibility and making calculated decisions for the best results. The factors mentioned above have to be carefully considered as every step is crucial in this journey of Education Abroad.

3 Reasons Why Indian Students Choose to Study Abroad

Overseas Education is an amazing opportunity for students to gain exposure to new age courses as well as be part of a diverse community that will help them grow as individuals.
Indian students usually opt to study abroad because the education system abroad is more advanced than India's and there is a wide unavailability of courses in India that are available abroad. With the increasing surge in popularity among students in India, Education abroad is becoming a means for students to achieve their full potential while developing their personality to improve their chances of having a fulfilling and promising careers.
3 main reasons why Indian students are increasingly choosing to study abroad are:
1. Quality Education
Though the standard of education is increasing and evolving, the courses available have only a theoretical approach to the curriculum and lacks a practical application of the syllabus. Due to the lack of practicality, students that graduate lacks the skills that are required which hampers their career. In comparison, universities and colleges abroad actively engage their students with a balance between theory and practicality. They offer both on campus and off campus experiences to equip their students with skills to help them engage the study matter. A feature about the education system abroad is the flexibility of the courses that lets students choose their course based on their interest and also allows them to work part time so that they can earn while studying. Alumni from foreign universities are a part of strong Alumni networks. These networks comprise of people that own global companies and are great scholars as well. These networks help students to get job offers and secure employment after graduation. There's a strong culture of innovation and technology in countries abroad that encourages students to develop and experiment with different ideas to sharpen their skill sets and challenge themselves. Universities also give students scholarship opportunities and financial aid assistance to help them make the most of their courses.
2. Employment Prospects
One of the most prominent reasons why Indian students study abroad, is Employment. Students prefer to study abroad and get an international qualification as it boosts their career prospects. Apart from the qualifications, graduates receive higher salaries and get more job opportunities. International qualifications are valued much more than domestic degrees in India. Companies prefer applicants with advanced and international degrees as they have a higher skill sets. Employees with more advanced degrees usually also hold higher posts in companies. An added bonus is that countries now offer a stay back option on student visas which lets international students stay back and search for employment after the completion of their course. The salaries you receive abroad is much higher as compared to the salary you would receive for the same job in India. With the ever increasing demand for Indian students in Industry, now is the perfect time for students to study abroad.
3. Immigration
For countries like the USA and UK, students apply with the end goal of immigration to that country. Once students secure employment they are presented with the opportunity to apply for Permanent Residency. Canada has a 3 year stay back policy for students during which they can apply for a work visa and permanent residency. The US has a 2 year stay back policy during which they can convert the visa to a work visa. UK has brought back its 2 year stay back work visa for international students to help them seek employment in the UK.Immigration plays a pivotal role in deciding the country for study at the postgraduate level. This is because students pursuing a postgraduate degree are focused on work opportunities after they complete their program and this has proven to be a motivating factor for Indian students.
A few other factors that influence a student's decision to study abroad are affordability, the multicultural student community and environment that boasts a diverse student base, short and quick programs for Master's degrees, the wide range of programs available in English even in countries like Germany and France, the clean surroundings and comfortable climatic conditions, low tuition fees, research opportunities and a vibrant and cosmopolitan lifestyle.

6 Study Tips for College Students

Having good study habits is essential for success when you’re looking to study abroad. Although students have the habit of procrastinating and completing assignments at the eleventh hour, having in place a few study habits will help you long way at university. Even if it’s your finals or your midterms, good study habits will help you in both situations.
If you’re looking for a fix to help increase your grades and keep the GPA up, this article is the right place to be. With a few study tips, we’re sure that you will have a smooth university experience.

Organised
Organising your resource material is of crucial importance. Use sticky notes and highlighters to make classifications regarding the importance of your notes. Keep your books in an organised manner, which will enable you to find them with ease. Not just books any other material that you need should be easily available to you. Making flashcards goes a long way during exams. Education abroad is quite different from that over here. Self-learning is of immense importance, therefore making flashcards will help you through the exam process.
Apart from organising your resource material, what you should also organise is your calender. Making a list of all your commitments that include social engagements, work commitments, deadlines to adhere to, submissions to make will help you organise your month.

Disconnect yourself
Although, it sounds quite outrageous in today’s age to expect young adults to refrain from using social media, it is the need of the hour. During exams, limit the use of social media, it eats up a large chunk of your day. Set yourself a target, upon completion of certain hours of study you can use social media for a said duration. In the contemporary world a large chunk of knowledge is often attained through the internet. However, it can also be one of the greatest mediums of distraction, students often find themselves lost in the world of internet. Stay alert and don’t lose your focus when studying.

Make Notes
Enough emphasis cannot be put on the importance of notes. Especially when you’re attaining your education abroad. Apart from reference books, lectures are of immense significance. Making notes of what the professor is saying is immensely critical. Jotting down the important points during lecture will help you from missing out on the critical pieces of information professors mention off-hand during lectures. Making notes, is an art. Students are often seen jotting nearly everything down, the trick here is to list only the important things down. Filter what you think is necessary. Moreover, if you ever think you have missed out on something, meet up with the professors. They are extremely accommodating to the needs of students and are ready to help. Apart from this, if permitted by the lecturer you can record the lectures as well.

Don’t put studies to the last minute
It is tempting to put studies off till the last minute. Thinking you can cram in all the studies you were required to do in a night. Avoid doing so, it will not only get you overwhelmed but deter you from putting in all the efforts you should actually be putting. Ease yourself into the process of studying, not only will this save you from exhaustion but also increase your chances of retention.

Find the perfect study environment
Try different types of environment to see which one works for you the best. Some students enjoy the silence of the library whilst some enjoy the bustle of a coffee shop, some also enjoy the sound of music whilst others enjoy silence. See which works best for you. Apart from the environment, timings are also crucial. Some students wake up during the wee hours of the morning whilst others burn the midnight oil studying. On the other hand, some enjoy studying during the afternoon. What is good for others may not necessarily be good for you. Find your mix and adhere to it.

Don’t pressurize yourself
Time management is extremely critical when studying overseas. Getting overwhelmed when studying overseas is quite natural, don’t pressurize yourself. Give yourself some time-off, take a break once in a while to relax your mind. During your study sessions take a break for a few minutes, it will help you stay alert and increase your retention power.

With these study tips, your overseas education process is sure to be streamlined, for further assistance do get in touch with Edwise.
