Top 8 reasons Why Canada is a Good Destination to Study

Canada plays host to more than 180,000 International students in any given year. Canada is increasingly becoming one of the world’s most popular destinations for education.

1) High standard of living: Canada is a country with highest standard of living. All major urban areas have a variety of shopping centers, restaurants, theaters, art centers and museums. Canadian cities have many open to the public parks, gardens, beach and sports and leisure facilities.

2) Low cost of living: In the past three years, Canadian inflation rate compared to industrial countries is one of the lowest. Canadian Institutes, charge lower tuition fees for international students than their counterparts in competing countries and at the same time, maintain excellent educational quality. However as the fees are more affordable, admissions are more competitive.

3) Safe learning: Canada is a safe, just and peace-loving nation.  Canada’s crime rate has steadily declined. Every step is taken to ensure the safety of students in campuses. Most universities / colleges have their own campus security 24 hours a day. There are also “Walk Safe" programmes to assist people in getting to public transportation during late hours.

4) The world’s highest quality of life in recent years: The UN survey shows that Canada is the world’s best residential area. Ranked as the Number one Country for the past 9 consecutive years, a United Nations survey has found Canada to be the best place in the world to live. Canada’s high levels of universal education, long life expectancy (due to universal health care system), low crime, less violence are factors which make Canada the survey to get a high score.  In addition, Fortune Magazine named Toronto and Ontario as the best international city.

5) Canada is a bilingual country with two official languages, English and French. The vast majority (75%) of Canada’s French-speaking inhabitants lives in the province of Quebec, which is located in the eastern part of the country but there are French-speaking communities throughout the country. English is the main language of communication in all provinces other than Quebec.

6) Excellent natural environment: Canada has one of the most beautiful natural environment. Students here will be fortunate enough to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. Canada is a co-existence of geographical conditions, the wild landscape: stretches from the coastline of British Columbia, Alberta majestic Rocky Mountains, the vast expanse of high prairie to the “maple sugar town, “said the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence and the Atlantic coast province of rugged mountains and picturesque provinces of the coast.

7) Permanent Residency and Canadian Immigration - International students can apply for their Permanent Residency which takes up to 15 to 18 months from within Canada. However they need to meet the minimum eligibility criteria of 67 Points.

8) Work during and after and co-op program- Students in Canada are allowed to work part time on campus during the first 6 months of their program and off campus part time thereafter. The duration permitted is upto 20 hours per week. Several programs may even have a paid co-op term where one gets hands on experience on working in the industry. Further students on the completion of their program of 1 year can work upto 1 year and students applying for 2 years program can work for 2-3 years.

Student Testimonial
I am writing this testimonial to Edwise International and especially to my tutor for PTE. I was tensed before giving my PTE exam because I got my passport late and I had to clear the exam in a single attempt. I explained the situation to her. She helped me a lot. Those two sessions were really very crucial for me as I scored 77/90 in PTE with 90/90 in speaking. This score has also helped me in getting a part time job in Australia as well. My tutor was very calm, understanding, I am really thankful to Edwise and for the overall experience with a Coaching Dept

IELTS – Opening Doors, Creating Opportunities

IELTS i.e. International English Language Testing System is a standardized English proficiency test. It assesses English language skills in the areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP- Australia and University of Cambridge ESOL EXAMINATIONS.

IELTS has two types of modules - Academic and General Training. Academic Module is required to be given by students who plan to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels. While, General Training Module is generally a prerequisite for the people who either want to pursue vocational studies or plan to immigrate.

20 tips for IELTS success
IELTS teaches skills that you need in your whole life, listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Listening
  • In listening, use the example at the beginning of the first section to familiarize yourself with the sound, the situation, and the speakers.
  • Keep listening until the recording stops, looking only at the questions that relate to the part being played.
  • There are often pauses in the recording between different sections. Use these to prepare for the next set of questions.
  • Answer listening questions in the order they appear on the question paper. Remember that they normally follow the order of the information in the recording.
  • At the end of the recording you have some time to transfer your answers to the answer sheet. Check your grammar and spelling as you do so.
Reading

  • In Academic reading, begin by going quickly through each passage to identify features such as the topic, the style, the likely source, the writer’s purpose and the intended reader.
  • As you read, don’t try to understand the precise meaning of every word or phrase. You don’t have time, and those parts of the text might not be tested anyway.
  • Reading tasks sometimes have an example answer. If this is the case, study it and decide why it is correct.
  • Some tasks require you to use words from the text in the answer; in others you should use your own words. Check the instructions carefully.
  • The instructions may also include a word limit, e.g. Use no more than three words. Keep to this by avoiding unnecessary words in your answer.

Writing
  • In Academic writing, you must always keep to the topic set. Never try to prepare sections of text before the exam.
  • Keep to the suggested timing: there are more marks possible for task 2 than task 1.
  • Organize and link your ideas and sentences appropriately, using a wide range of language and showing your ability (in Task 2) to discuss ideas and express opinions.
  • If you write less than 150 words in Task 1 or less than 250 in Task 2 you will lose marks, but there is no maximum number of words for either.
  • When you plan your essay, allow plenty of time at the end to check your work.

Speaking
  • In speaking, don’t try to give a prepared speech, or talk about a different topic from the one you are asked to discuss.
  • Always speak directly to the examiner, not to the recording equipment.
  • Whenever you reply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the examiner’s questions, add more details to your answer. In each case, aim to explain at least one point.
  • Remember that you are not being tested on your general knowledge but on your ability to communicate effectively.
  • Organize and link your ideas and sentences appropriately, talking clearly at normal speed and using a wide range of structures and vocabulary.

Students may enroll under the FREE IELTS SCHEME. Under this scheme, if a student has enrolled in a university represented by Edwise and applies for visa with that university offer, then he/she is entitled for a refund after net deduction of taxes and cost of official course ware. The refund is applicable whether visa has been granted or not.
