Guidelines to follow while acquiring Letters of Recommendation.

A Letter of Recommendation plays a vital role in the application process for Overseas Education as it verifies the claims that the applicant makes and proves the validation to the admissions committee. A LOR must be unique and different from another person’s and not plagiarized from any other sources as that is considered unethical. The LOR also helps the committee to learn more about the applicant which may not be reflected in their grades, from those who have taught the coursework and are experts in their fields and also from supervisors or coworkers in the professional setting as a face to face interview is not possible for the wide range of applicants with the universities.
Usually, an applicant advised to get 2-3 LORs as it mandatory for the application. Depending on the referee, the letter has to be printed on the letterhead of the respective organization and it is imperative that the applicant and referee share a relationship either in a professional or academic capacity.
A few guidelines to follow are listed below:
Professor/ Department Head/ Principal:
To study abroad, while approaching your professor for a letter of Recommendation, the student has to remember to mention the purpose of the LOR. The referee will then write the letter based on personal and professional aspects.
A few points that must be mentioned in a LOR are:
- How many years has the professor taught the student?
- What are the different subjects or courses that the professor taught?
- Mention the grades and score specifically as they are very important to the application.
- Are there any special projects that the student has undertaken and how was the performance is the mentioned project?
- Any special efforts or impromptu efforts taken by the student in the project work?
- How was the student’s conduct both academically in class and attendance?
Professional:
A professional Letter of Recommendation is an essential part of the application for degrees that have work experience as a requirement. These are usually graduate programs like MBA. In a professional LOR, the important elements that have to be included are:
- How many years has the applicant been working at this company?
- What is the job role and other responsibilities?
- How was the performance of the applicant in the organization?
And many more points.
A letter of recommendation has to be submitted online and in a soft copy format. Paper based letters may be submitted but it becomes inconvenient to risk loss of physical documents during postage.
For educational letters of recommendation, it is advisable to get a recommendation from either of the three, Professor/Head of Department/Principal or even all. Educators at this post usually hold greater reputations.
For a professional recommendation, the letter has to be given by the student’s current or previous employer. The referee should also be someone who has had a direct interaction or been incharge of the applicant.
Every letter of recommendation must be printed on the letterhead of the respective organization. For educational recommendations, the letter has to be on the letterhead of the school or college or institute. For professional recommendations, the letters have to be printed on the letterhead of the respective organization.
The letters of recommendation have to be dated or else they will be disqualified from the application. The letters have to be signed in ink and not a stamped signature by the reference. All letters have to be submitted at least 1 month before the first university deadline.
For any other assistance we are available PAN India.

Tips for successful university applications

The decision to study abroad often has a few hurdles. However, upon successful completion of the same, can one be truly satisfied. The university application process is one of the most strenuous moments of a student's life. Students feels like it holds the key to their future.
An admission committee goes through floods of applications daily, it is an arduous task to make yours stand out in the pool of competition. Below given are a few tips that would assist you in attaining an application that stands out from the rest for overseas education.
  • Research
Like many other tasks in an individual’s life, undertaking research work is of paramount importance when looking to study abroad. Before looking at any university, one must be fully aware of their interests. Only upon realization of one’s aspirations will the picking of college be undertaken in an appropriate manner. It is imperative to not only research the university but the course as well. A university may have an overall high ranking but what is of significance is its ranking in the program of your choice. While it is critical to know the expectations the university has from you what is of greater significance is whether the college satisfies your expectations. All these details will be of great significance and will be a boon to include in application documents.

  • Networking
The best way to judge the feel of the college is by interacting with college alumni. They will be able to paint a clear picture of the university. Interaction with the faculty will not only allow you to have greater information but show the authorities that you are interested in the program.

  • Honesty
As mentioned beforehand the admissions committee goes through a magnanimous number of applications. Thus if you’re exaggerating it can be spotted easily which will diminish your chances of availing admission. The Statement of Purpose should mirror your true personality and not be a replica. While it is tempting to reference other works, understand what inspires you and appropriately create your application documents. Increasingly universities are now undertaking a social media check, thus one must be sure that the facts shown are truthful when looking to pursue education abroad. Be yourself and don’t lose perspective of why you made an application in the first place. To make the admission committee believe in your achievements always provide examples. Due the limited time you have to make your case, briefly explain yourself and portray how you are significant.
  • Pre-planning
Deciding to study abroad is not a decision one can undertake on a whim. It requires immense planning in all fronts to successfully enroll at a foreign university. Keep ample time and determination to prepare for tests which will be a determining factor. Having an academic calendar will be of significance, think about interests or any short programs that you can undertake during your education abroad which will enable you to have an upper hand over other applicants. Always have multiple options to fall back on.

  • Document processing
Being aware of due dates will prevent you from facing any unforeseen circumstances. Reworking and reanalyzing your application documents will bring to light things that earlier missed your eye. Be cautious when selecting someone to write you a Letter of Recommendation. The letter is of immense significance in the application process and will speak to your strengths. Begin beforehand and submit documents which will enable you to be meticulous in the process. Make multiple people proofread your documents; getting varied opinions on the documents will enable you to have an extensive view. Keep copies of all the critical documents in case of emergencies.
Although grades are critical in the application process, activities undertaken outside the classroom which include extracurricular and social activities will be deciding factors in your application to study abroad.

How To Pick The Right Course To Study Abroad.

Overseas Education is a big decision that students take when they complete their schooling and undergraduate studies. With the latest developments in technology and innovation, courses and their curricula have become more adaptive and engaging for students. With a vast range of subjects and courses to choose from, students have to do their due diligence and research extensively and consider different factors along with a country and university to study in. There is a wide plethora of universities to choose from that offer an even wider range of courses and specialties. The choice has to be wise and well researched.
A few guidelines that will help students in this process of consideration and shortlisting are listed below, these are reference points but are not limited to these. They are as follows:
This guideline is the most important one as it consists of what the student is going to study abroad and what all the courses offer. Students are often advised to target universities that focus on their specialization. The specialization can either be subject specific or career specific. Students should also do their research on the faculty members and look into their academic profiles and qualifications. Students can also go through the university’s Alumni profiles to see the kind of graduates the university has produced over the past few years. The focus at this step should be the course content. The course content is everything that is included in the syllabus of the course along with any additional opportunities, some courses may also include internships and practical experience modules and also compare course fees to reduce financial strain on finances. Make sure that the course doesn’t repeat any modules that you have studied previously in undergrad. But above all, make sure the course is in line with your interests.
2. Department reputation -
While choosing where to study, students may should look at the department ranking of their area of specialization. The higher the ranking, the higher the quality of instruction. The next factor that students should look at is the overall university ranking. Educational organizations like QS rank universities based on a set criteria from course curriculum to quality of education to student life.
Choosing a university with a good reputation is of paramount as employers look for graduates from reputed universities as they are more skilled and professionally inclined.
3. Employability –
Another guideline while selecting the university, students should look into the quality of the successful graduates from the respective university who have had a positive impact on the university culture and overall development of the university student body. The student has to be absolutely sure that the university chosen will help in the develop of the skillset and equip students with the knowledge to master their field and profession. Universities have ties with various employers and students should keep them in mind just before graduation. Students should also research the employment rates of the graduates from a particular university while making a decision.
4. Facilities -
While looking at what all the university has to offer, a few areas that students should look at are the research facilities that the university offers. Look into research programs, research internships and other facilities. Some universities offer scholarships to its students. This is something that students could also look into. Students can also apply for financial aid from other organizations and banks. Look at what pastoral support does that university offer. Facilities like counselling, a tutor system, personal development courses and various other training opportunities. For accommodation facilities, universities often offer on campus housing in student halls of residence but students can seek accommodation off campus as well and opt for cheaper housing options and even stay with host families depending on the student’s personal preference.
5. Location -
Choosing a location that suits your preferences is of prime importance while studying abroad. While choosing a destination to study in, students should consider factors like weather conditions, public transportation and the student friendly nature of the destination as these collectively contribute to a pleasant stay of the student. Some destinations also have special discounts all over the city and students should keep that in mind while travelling. Students can also choose a university based on its campus size, infrastructure and in some cases the heritage that the university has since its establishment.

Funding avenues for overseas education

Although one is well aware of the various benefits of overseas education, people often restrict themselves from doing the same due to the high costs associated with it. The fall in the value of rupee coupled with the rising costs of attaining an international degree hinders study abroad plans that a student may have.
However, the above mentioned facets shouldn’t restrict you from achieving your dreams; various funding avenues are made available for overseas education which makes the process of studying abroad easier. Before making any arrangements for funding, one must undertake meticulous planning to understand the costs that may be incurred. The costs incurred will not only include tuition and application fees but also consists of costs of books, entrance tests fees, travel, accommodation and food.
Parents plan their child’s overseas education expenditure in advance and few students have creative solutions to their financial woes through investments in various avenues. The exchange rate considerations are paramount when making funding plans. After careful deliberations of costs, the following avenues can be availed:
  • Personal funds
A large number of students avail this option when making funding considerations. Family and friends are often sponsors of the students. People pool in their personal savings to make funding opportunities for education. Funds from personal savings are usually utilized from saving accounts because they offer higher rate of interests. Personal investment decisions should be continuously reviewed to undertake maximum benefit for the same.
  • Loans
The second most popular funding avenue to study abroad is that of education loans. The education loans provided by the banks have a varying rate of interest. The bank makes several considerations before availing a loan to a student. If the student’s sponsor is strong the ease with which a bank loan can be availed will be greater.
  • Assistantship
Assistantships are programs made available to students, wherein they provide their services to the university. These services include assistance to professor, at the library or any other on-campus jobs that will allow students to cover the expenses incurred. Most of these assistantships are usually made available to post-graduate students, however now an increasing number of universities make this opportunity available to all the students.
  • Scholarships
Scholarships are financial assistance provided by the university in attempt to reduce the financial burden of overseas education on students. These act as alternative sources of funding and are highly sought after by the students. Not only universities, but even governments and private trusts provide scholarships to the students. The best way to attain a stupendous scholarship is to sell yourself to the admission committee. Scholarships can either be availed on the basis of academic qualifications or on need basis. Apply to a large number of scholarships to increase the chances you have of availing one.
  • Discounts
A large number of universities are increasingly offering discounts to students when the fees are paid in one go. This motivates the students to study abroad.
  • Miscellaneous factors
Other means through which funds can be accumulated or the costs incurred reimbursed are through undertaking internships while studying abroad. Furthermore, interaction with faculty members is imperative because they source you to other individuals that can help you attain financial avenues. Long term investments for education can be made in fixed deposits or in mutual funds which are safe methods through which money can be accumulated for education purposes.
It will take you some time to settle in a new country; therefore before one gets accustomed to the financial situation in the foreign country you must carry local currency and forex cards in case of emergencies.
