Intake:

The primary intake period is in September, whilst the other one is in January. Few universities in Canada have a May intake as well. A student should begin planning for education in Canada one year prior.

Types of Certificates:

• Certificate: Successful completion of one year program
• Diploma: Successful completion of one or two year program
• Advanced Diploma: 3 year program, leading to Bachelors Degree
• Bachelor’s Degree: Successful completion of four year program, awarded by the University/College 
• Post Graduate Diploma/Certificate: Specialized course of 8-12 months
• Masters Degree: Successful completion of two year program
• PhD or Doctorate: Usually takes four to seven years to complete

Entrance Exam:

Along with good grades, students should also be fluent in English when making an application. Undergraduate courses in Canada require the students to have an IELTS score of 6.0/6.5 or a TOEFL course of 80 and above. Postgraduate courses require the students to have an IELTS score of 6.5/7 or a TOEFL course of 90 and above. PTE scores are also acceptable.

Work Opportunities:

• Co-Operative Work Term: During the duration of certain courses, co-operative work program is offered to students. This first hand practical experience lasts for 12-17 weeks. It gives the students the opportunity to kickstart their career, due to the immense networking opportunities they get. The co-operative work program enables students to approximately earn C$700-C$900 per month. 

• Work During Studies: During the duration of the program students are permitted to work 20 hours per week off campus and 40 hours during course break, which approximately enables them to earn C$11-C$14 per hour. 

• Work Permit: International students who have completed two years of study are encouraged to stay back with the Open Work Permit for up to 3 years.

Visa:

To study in Canada, one should make an application well in advance. Under normal circumstances the visa takes over 4-6 weeks process. Submission of the visa requires the student to have adequate English Language scores, Proof of Payment, purchase of special Guaranteed Investment Certificate to cover living expenses for the first year of stay.
